Fellow: Students at the Center
Students at the Center is a New Orleans-based organization that works with local youth on intensive writing and media projects, to develop literacy and civic skills and enable students to become catalysts for change in their communities.
Biography

Students at the Center (SAC) is an independent program that works within the Orleans Parish public school system. Prior to the storm, through intensive writing and media projects, SAC worked with youth in New Orleans's lowest performing schools to develop literacy and civic skills to enable students to become catalysts for change in their communities. Since September 2005, SAC has worked to reestablish opportunities for youth voices to be heard. Currently, they are continuing to work with students displaced by the hurricanes on media projects, creating school/community-based programs in New Orleans, and participating in a coalition of groups assisting with the rebuilding of public education in New Orleans.

Fellow's Project
Students at the Center produced a series of short movies by youth from New Orleans that address the impact of Katrina on the daily lives of young people.
