Biography

Stephen Smith is executive editor and host of American RadioWorks. Smith has produced scores of documentaries and reports on a diverse range of subjects for American Public Media, National Public Radio, Public Radio International, the BBC, and the Canadian Broadcasting System. He has done extensive reporting on human rights and international justice, brain science and mental health, race relations and 20th-century American history. Smith is the winner of many journalism awards, including the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Gold Baton.

Fellow's Project
Kate Ellis and Stephen Smith completed two documentaries for American RadioWorks: Rebuilding Biloxi: One Year After Katrina, about families there struggling to recover one year after the storm; and Routes to Recovery, about whether the preservation and restoration of New Orleans' cultural life might provide the most enduring path to its rebuilding.
